The Journey to Bellingham

fOur journey began at 8:00 AM this morning- which really felt like 7:00 thanks to Daylight Savings Time. We were all tired but excited to begin our trip after several months of preparation. Throughout the past two semesters, we have been meeting as a group and also attending Moreau Center seminars. Today was the first day that it became real! We could not have been more excited.

After a 5 hour drive to Bellingham- through rain, wind, getting lost, and good music- we finally arrived at the United Church of Christ in Ferndale, our home for the next six nights. We were blessed to receive such a warm welcome from Bobbi, the church pastor, and several other members. They are so gracious, hospitable, and eager to be hosting us. We will have the opportunity to share several meals with the church this week and exchange stories of service trips.

We will begin work on the housing site on Tuesday, but tomorrow we will be doing service work with the Bellingham Food Bank and a home for elderly/ disabled persons. We will also get to do a bit of exploring around Bellingham. After such a long trip up, we are all exhausted so sleeping on the floor should not be a problem! We look forward to what tomorrow brings as we dive into the first actual service day, and we can't wait to work on the house! Thank you for your prayers and support! So far everything has gone as planned.

Love,

Hilary and Hannah
