East Africa Internship Information 2011

Program Structure

Two junior students (one e-scholar or business student and one student from any major) will be selected as EAI interns for the summer of 2011. The 9-week internship program is in collaboration with the Foundation for Sustainable Development ( In preparation for the program, students will be expected to attend bi-weekly preparation seminars leading up to their departure.


Dates of Travel

FSD has two start dates for their 9-week intern program, beginning May 21 or June 11 (TBD with selected interns). Students will travel together the week prior to FSD orientation in order to meet the Holy Cross community in Nairobi, Kenya before traveling to Kakamega. Therefore, departure dates will either be mid May or early June.


Program Costs

The Moreau Center and Pamplin School of Business will cover the cost of FSD’s Intern Abroad program fee. Students will be expected to raise or pay-out-of-pocket for airfare, visa, passport, vaccination and any other personal expenses.


FSD Program Fee – About $4000/student (includes lodging, meals, travel insurance and seed grant)

Airfare – Approx. $2500/student

Visa - $25/single entry, can be obtained prior to departure or in the Kenya airport

Passport – About $125

Vaccinations/malaria medication - variable

Selection and Recommendations to FSD: by Friday, December 17

All meetings will be at Friday, 4pm unless otherwise determined.

1/21, 2/18, 2/25 and 4/29 will include Swahili practice.

*These formation dates are with other Moreau Center immersion and plunge program participants. There is a large group teaching time, then small group discussion.
