Welcome to the University of Portland Garaventa Center's 2010 conference: History (1933-1948) What We Choose to Remember.

The purpose of this conference is to examine the ideas – legal, philosophical, religious, mythical, medical, and scientific – and the institutions – secular and sacred – that informed and directed as well as opposed and thwarted the unfolding of events from the rise of the dictatorships in the western world to the establishment of the state of Israel so the lessons of history can guide the future.

Elias Chacour
Three-time nobel peace prize nominee Elias Chacour, Archbishop of Galillee, delivers the conference's keynote address. It is free and open to the public.
