Movie Night!!

Hello! I have to tell you guys that I am so happy to hear from some of you! Your emails have reminded me of my job, which is to share my experience in a straightforward way and to answer some of the questions I had when I was looking into colleges. So feel free to contact me with any questions you may have, as I told one prospective freshman, it’s much more productive for me to answer emails than to procrastinate on Facebook!

Alright, so the Campus Program Board puts on a movie every Friday and Saturday night in the Buckley Center Auditorium. This week it was The Muppet Movie, and let me tell you, I was so excited! I decided to make it a kind of experiment to make sure UP’s community was all that I’ve been saying it was. I went alone, had headphones in before the movie, and sat in a random row. Basically, I was the epitome of “moody college student.” You know what happened? A girl from my dorm floor asked if I wanted to sit with her and a friend. To be honest, I was shocked. I thought especially with the headphones in, I would maybe just get a group to sit by me, but no. I got invited to sit by a girl from my floor who I make elevator conversation with. I was in awe again of how tightknit this community is, and how UP strives to include everyone!

Besides the movie being hilarious, (I would definitely recommend seeing it!), I learned a lot about the girl from my floor and her friend who I had never met before. If you need proof about the sense of belonging in college, there you go. It’s not so much about having the most friends, going to the coolest parties, or putting a label on yourself, it’s about being at a place where people are accepting and extremely caring.

I just had to tell you guys about that! It really made my night and reminded me how opening up to experiences can lead to sharing a conversation with awesome people. And then watching a movie that makes you reminisce about childhood and forget about essays, exams, and speeches, even just for a couple hours.

Tip 4: Tying into the reminiscing, make sure you bring a couple movies that are absolutely hilarious to college. I find that laughter is a great way to burn off some energy and promote focus.
