Oh Sweet Midterms

It doesn’t take very long for midterms to come around on campus. It’s as if you come into school, start classes, and as soon as you begin to feel you are settled in BAM! your first midterm.

Well, what better thing to do than to find an appropriate place to study? My favorite place this year has been the library. I have come to realize that last year I didn’t take advantage of the great resources we have there. However, I have outgrown that and now I have come to believe that it is one of the most amazing places on campus.

This past week, I spent a lot of my free time reading for my classes and preparing for exams. Honestly, the best idea ever! The library has been able to provide many services. It’s so great that if I’m studying and I don’t understand something I can look for similar books to help me understand things better. Whenever I get exhausted from studying so much I like to take a break and head to the Cove to grab some coffee or a quick snack. The fact that campus is small makes everything so much easier because you can come and go within a few minutes.

I’ve gotten into the habit of going to the library with some friends, its better when you have that sort of motivation to be there with others because you know you need to get things done. Works for some people, but it may not work for others because it could create distraction. For those frequent study group sessions there are study rooms that you can reserve. These are so helpful, they each have a whiteboard where you can plan out problems and explain them to each other better. I have slowly become a fan of the study rooms. In general, the library is an awesome place to spend your time.

Portland weather is starting to look like Portland weather, overcast days with showers that come and go, which could only mean one thing… its library season.

Why I Chose UP: The campus was amazing and the community at this school was exactly what I wanted. I liked that my classes would be very small and I would be getting the right academic attention. I believe strongly in the mission of the school and I felt at home when I made my decision.

Favorite Thing About UP:  Close enough to home that I can go for a weekend, come back and not be totally exhausted. There are so many things to do in Portland and I like that we have a lot of studies abroad opportunities.

Advice for Prospective Students: Visit the school; you don't know what you're getting yourself into until you truly experience it.
