Thai After Midterms

So I was able to make it through the week that kept me away from fall break. I must say it wasn’t as tough as I thought it was going to be. I only had two finals that week, one for a computer science and one for my calculus. Calculus was a difficult one, as for computer science, I think I’m getting the hang of it.

This past week I was able to get a lot of my work done and turn it all in on time which was good because what’s better than getting your work in on time? I got through my finals which was relieving, had a great time at work, and above all prepared to go home for the week.

My brother picked me up on Friday to head up to Seattle. He and I decided that before we left we wanted to hang out in Portland for a while. We went to the Lloyd Center, which is a mall about 15 minutes away from campus. I was able to get my mom something for her birthday which is coming up. My brother got really hungry as we were shopping, though I think that was just an excuse to get out of the place (he gets bored with the girly shopping.) So we decided to find a place to have dinner before departing Portland.

A friend of mine sometimes takes me out to eat at a Thai place in downtown so I suggested it to him. He was definitely ready to go there and try the food. We headed out; I had no idea of what the place was called so we managed to get there with only my previous knowledge of having gone there. Usually I’m good with directions but when I’m not paying attention where people are going it gets difficult. However, we managed to get there.

He and I had dinner, and may I say it was amazing. I love Thai food! We ordered salad rolls, pineapple rice and the mild Pad Thai. This beats any other Thai place that I have been to anywhere and it’s become one of my favorite places to eat at in Portland.

After we ate, we started heading home on what felt like the slowest drive of my life. This was of course due to the many stops we made at stores on the way up.

BTW, I decided to learn the name of the restaurant which is Baan-Thai on Southwest Broadway. I highly recommend it.

Why I Chose UP: The campus was amazing and the community at this school was exactly what I wanted. I liked that my classes would be very small and I would be getting the right academic attention. I believe strongly in the mission of the school and I felt at home when I made my decision.

Favorite Thing About UP:  Close enough to home that I can go for a weekend, come back and not be totally exhausted. There are so many things to do in Portland and I like that we have a lot of studies abroad opportunities.

Advice for Prospective Students: Visit the school; you don't know what you're getting yourself into until you truly experience it.
